Helping a single mother provide for her family
posted June 12, 2011

Suon Choeum lives in a palm leaf house and supports her five daughters all by herself. She grows about 800 kilograms of rice on her rice field, and even though she has no form of transportation to take the rice to the market, she manages to earn enough to meet the needs of her family.
Choeum grows rice during the season of heavy rainfall, and her field lies fallow for the rest of the year. Since she doesn’t have a reliable water source, she cannot use the field to grow vegetables both to supplement her family’s diet and to earn some extra money.
Your donations, Devang (x 4), Yukako (x2), Johanna, Ettore, Caitlin, Pamela, Max (x 4), Yosia, Shanen and Darcene, enabled Trailblazer to give Choeum a drinking well. She can now have a year long supply of water, which will enable her to grow more than just rice in her field. Her children can help.
You can see the joy on her face to be given this opportunity to grow extra vegetables for their own consumption and to sell in the local market.
Thank you for bringing water and hope to Suon Choeum and her family.
